Tatonka Pyrox 45+10 BC Bushcraft Backpack

Tatonka Pyrox 45+10 BC is a robust 55-litre backpack developed for bushcraft, trekking and self-supported outdoor trips. Its hard-wearing CORDURA® construction is combined with modular MOLLE-compatible attachment areas, allowing additional pouches and equipment to be added according to the activity.

The adjustable Frame Comfort Light carrying system accommodates a wide range of back lengths and transfers the load efficiently towards the padded hip belt. A ventilated back area supports airflow during active tours, while the large front opening provides convenient access to equipment without unpacking the backpack from the top.

Adjustable Frame Comfort Light System

The carrying system uses a lightweight frame, padded shoulder straps and a ventilated hip belt to stabilise the backpack and direct weight towards the pelvic area. Its back length can be adjusted continuously for both shorter and longer backs. Load-control straps, a height-adjustable chest strap and the redirected hip-belt pull allow the fit to be refined after packing.

For the best result, position the centre of the hip belt over the hip bones, adjust the back length and shoulder straps, and then tighten the load-control and chest straps without restricting movement or breathing.

Expandable Storage and Easy Access

The main pack provides approximately 45 litres of standard capacity, with a further 10 litres available by extending the snow guard and raising the adjustable lid. The separate bottom compartment is useful for a sleeping bag, footwear or other equipment that should remain apart from the main load.

A large front opening gives direct access to items in the centre and lower part of the backpack. Smaller equipment can be organised in the lid compartment, elastic side pocket and zipped pocket on one hip fin. The pack also includes a key holder and a dedicated first-aid compartment, supplied without medical contents.

Modular MOLLE-Compatible Attachment

The front modular panel, side MOLLE webbing and attachment points on one hip fin accept compatible accessory pouches and equipment. Suitable options include Tatonka Universal Pouches 3032, 3033, 3034 and 3035, as well as appropriately sized MOLLE pouches from other manufacturers.

External equipment should be secured tightly and distributed evenly. Heavy items are best carried close to the back inside the main compartment, as excessive or unbalanced external loads can affect stability and snag on vegetation.

Outdoor Equipment Attachment

Dedicated fastening points accommodate hiking poles or an ice axe, while additional gear loops support suitable outdoor tools and accessories. Side compression straps and compression around the base reduce unused volume and help prevent the contents from shifting during movement.

The backpack is prepared for a compatible hydration system. The drinking reservoir is not included unless stated separately by the retailer.

Durable Materials and Weather Protection

The main body and base use CORDURA® 500 den, a high-strength nylon 6.6 fabric valued for its resistance to abrasion and tearing. The material composition is 100% polyamide.

Tex Cover Recycled is a lightweight, PU-coated fabric made from 100% recycled polyester. It is used for components such as the integrated rain cover and has a PFC/PFAS-free finish.

The backpack’s DWR treatment helps repel light moisture and dirt but does not make the complete pack waterproof. Use the supplied rain cover during wet weather and protect electronics, documents and other moisture-sensitive items in waterproof inner bags.

Recommended Uses

  • Bushcraft and wilderness skills
  • Multi-day hiking and trekking
  • Camping and forest travel
  • Field work and outdoor training
  • Equipment-intensive day or weekend trips
  • Modular outdoor and tactical-style loadouts

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 45+10 litres mean?

The standard capacity is approximately 45 litres. Extending the snow guard and raising the adjustable lid provides about 10 litres of additional space, giving a maximum stated volume of 55 litres.

What load is the carrying system designed for?

The Frame Comfort Light system is optimised for pack weights up to approximately 15 kg. Individual comfort also depends on fit, physical condition, terrain and weight distribution.

Can pouches from other manufacturers be attached?

Yes. The attachment areas are MOLLE compatible, so appropriately sized MOLLE pouches from other manufacturers can be used in addition to compatible Tatonka accessories.

Is the backpack waterproof?

No. Its DWR treatment and coated materials provide weather resistance, and an integrated rain cover is included, but the complete backpack is not watertight.

Are a hydration bladder and first-aid supplies included?

No. The backpack is prepared for a compatible hydration system and has a dedicated first-aid compartment, but the reservoir and medical contents must be purchased separately.
