American Tanto Blade Profile

The Leatherneck® Tanto features Cold Steel’s characteristic American Tanto blade shape. Its angular point and reinforced forward section are designed to provide a strong tip and robust geometry for controlled utility cutting tasks.

The blade measures approximately 17.8 cm in length and approximately 5 mm in thickness. This substantial construction gives the knife a rigid and durable feel, but users should still avoid prying, twisting, throwing or striking unsuitable materials.

D2 Tool Steel

The blade is made from D2 tool steel, a hard-wearing air-hardening steel widely used for durable industrial tools and rugged outdoor knives.

D2 offers good wear resistance and useful edge retention. It also provides better corrosion resistance than many simpler carbon steels, although it is not fully stainless and still requires regular cleaning, drying and protective maintenance.

The blade is finished with a black powder coating that reduces glare and provides an additional layer of surface protection. The coating may gradually show wear in areas exposed to repeated cutting or sheath contact.

Full-Tang Construction

The Leatherneck® Tanto uses an extra-wide full tang extending through the handle. Full-tang construction helps distribute force through the entire knife and is commonly chosen for demanding fixed-blade designs.

Solid Steel Guard

The handle is finished with a machined steel butt cap. Although the manufacturer describes the cap as suitable for emergency striking tasks, the knife should not be used as a general-purpose hammer or for striking hardened materials, as this may damage the knife or cause injury.

Secure-Ex® Sheath Included

The Leatherneck® Tanto is supplied with a military-style Secure-Ex® sheath designed for safe blade coverage, retention and transport.

The detachable belt loop is ambidextrous, allowing the sheath to be configured for right- or left-side carry where legally permitted.
