The Morakniv Garberg Grand BlackBlade (C) is a large full-tang bushcraft knife developed for demanding outdoor work, wilderness expeditions and advanced survival tasks. Its extended 142 mm carbon steel blade provides additional reach and cutting power for splitting wood, carving, cutting branches and shelter-building tasks.

The blade is made from German C100S carbon steel, hardened to a nominal 57.5 HRC and finished with a black DLC coating. The coating reduces reflections and provides additional corrosion protection, while the Scandinavian grind makes the knife suitable for controlled wood carving and general bushcraft work.

The full tang extends through the entire handle and remains exposed at the rear, allowing the pommel area to be used during suitable batoning tasks or for striking a ferrocerium fire starter. A ground spine is also compatible with a fire steel.

The dark brown polyamide handle features an ergonomic shape, finger guard and Morakniv’s Dala-pattern friction grip for secure handling in changing weather conditions. The knife includes a matching right-handed sheath made from vegetable-tanned European leather.

Extended Full-Tang Construction

The Garberg Grand uses a true full-tang construction, meaning the blade steel extends through the entire handle. This gives the knife a strong, stable structure for demanding bushcraft work.

The tang remains exposed at the rear of the handle. This allows controlled striking during suitable batoning tasks and provides a hard surface for scraping or striking a compatible fire starter.

Even a robust full-tang knife has limits. Do not use it as a pry bar, crowbar, hammer, throwing knife or substitute for an axe, saw or splitting wedge.

C100S Carbon Steel Blade

The blade is made from C100S carbon steel supplied by C.D. Wälzholz GmbH in Germany. Carbon steel is valued for its cutting performance, toughness and ease of sharpening in the field.

The blade is hardened to a nominal 57.5 HRC, providing a practical balance between edge retention, toughness and straightforward resharpening.

Carbon steel is not stainless. Although the DLC coating offers additional corrosion protection, the cutting edge and any exposed steel can still rust. The blade should be cleaned, dried and lightly oiled after use.

Black DLC Coating

The black DLC coating reduces blade reflections and helps protect the steel from corrosion and surface wear.

The coating is not permanent and may show wear over time, especially during batoning, contact with abrasive materials or repeated sharpening. Wear to the coating does not necessarily affect the basic function of the knife.

Scandinavian Grind

The blade uses a traditional Scandi grind, making it well suited for bushcraft, controlled carving and wood preparation.

The specified total primary grind angle is approximately 26–28°, while the listed cutting-edge angle is approximately 37–39°. Use suitable sharpening equipment and follow the existing edge geometry when maintaining the knife.

Ferro Rod Compatible

The ground blade spine is designed to produce sparks from a compatible ferrocerium fire starter. The exposed rear tang may also be used for controlled fire-starting tasks where appropriate.

Use fire-starting equipment only in locations where open fire is lawful and safe. Follow all local fire restrictions and extinguish fires completely before leaving the area.

Secure Polyamide Handle

The dark brown polyamide handle has an ergonomic profile with a finger guard and Dala-pattern friction grip. This provides secure control during carving, cutting and other outdoor tasks, including use in wet or cold conditions.

The handle also includes a lanyard hole for attaching a suitable retention cord. A lanyard should never be wrapped in a way that could trap the hand during a fall or uncontrolled movement.

Vegetable-Tanned Leather Sheath

The included brown sheath is made from vegetable-tanned European leather and has a practical belt loop. It is configured for right-handed carry.

Leather is a natural material and may show variations in shade, texture and grain. Keep the sheath dry and do not store the knife in damp leather for extended periods, as this can contribute to corrosion.
