The Cold Steel Latin D-Guard Machete 21 in. is a long-bladed working machete that combines the cutting performance of a traditional Latin machete with the added hand protection of a D-guard handle. The approximately 53.3 cm blade is made from 65Mn high-carbon steel and finished with a black baked-on matte coating to help protect against rust. The handle is made from tough injection-moulded polypropylene and fully encases the tang and D-ring guard area for a secure, weather-resistant grip.

This model includes a Cor-Ex™ sheath for safer transport and storage. With an overall length of approximately 67.6 cm and a weight of approximately 587 g, it provides long reach and strong cutting capability while remaining manageable for field use.

Latin Machete Cutting Performance

The Latin machete profile is one of the most widely recognised working machete patterns. Its long, relatively narrow blade provides excellent reach and efficient cutting performance for brush, vines, light branches, reeds and other vegetation.

The 21 in. blade length offers a good balance between cutting reach and control, making it suitable for users who want more reach than an 18 in. machete but do not require the maximum length of a 24 in. version.

D-Guard Handle Protection

The D-guard handle design provides additional protection around the hand compared with a simple straight handle. This can help reduce the chance of the hand sliding forward or being struck by light vegetation during work.

65Mn High-Carbon Steel Blade

65Mn is not stainless steel. The black baked-on matte coating helps protect the blade surface, but the cutting edge and any scratched areas still require cleaning, drying and light oiling to reduce the risk of rust.
