The Cold Steel True Flight Thrower is a full-size throwing and utility knife designed around a simple, robust one-piece steel construction. This current-generation version, available since 2020, is made from S50C steel and finished with a black baked-on protective coating.

With an overall length of approximately 30.5 cm, a blade length of approximately 17.1 cm and a weight of approximately 318 g, the True Flight Thrower has a substantial, evenly balanced format suitable for controlled target-throwing practice in a purpose-built environment.

Unlike purely blunt throwing trainers, the True Flight Thrower also has a sharpened utility edge. This allows it to perform general outdoor cutting tasks, but it also means that it must be treated as a live fixed-blade knife at all times. S50C Steel Construction

The current True Flight Thrower is manufactured from S50C steel, a medium-carbon steel selected for toughness, durability and suitability for impact-oriented tools.

The one-piece construction provides a simple and robust structure without folding joints or separate handle scales. As S50C is not stainless steel, the blade should be cleaned, dried and lightly oiled after use to reduce the risk of corrosion.

Black Protective Coating

The steel is finished with a black baked-on protective coating. This helps reduce glare and provides an additional barrier against moisture and surface corrosion.

The coating may gradually wear in areas exposed to repeated target contact, sheath friction or utility cutting. Such wear is normal and does not eliminate the need for regular maintenance of the underlying steel.

Sharpened Utility Edge

The True Flight Thrower differs from many dedicated throwing trainers because it includes a sharpened, functional edge. In addition to controlled target-throwing practice, it can therefore be used for lawful outdoor utility tasks such as cutting cordage, preparing kindling and other general campsite work.

Because the edge is sharp, the knife must never be treated as a blunt practice tool. It can cause severe injury during handling, throwing, retrieval, transport or storage.

Paracord-Wrapped Handle

The approximately 13.3 cm handle is wrapped with paracord to provide a more secure and comfortable gripping surface than bare steel.

The wrap may become dirty, wet or damaged during use and should be inspected regularly. If replaced, the new wrapping must be fitted securely so that it cannot loosen unexpectedly during handling.

Cor-Ex™ Sheath Included

The True Flight Thrower is supplied with a Cor-Ex™ sheath designed to cover the sharpened blade during storage and transport.
